Dear people,
With the state of the world at the moment, a lot of people are
struggling with feelings of powerlessness, anxiety and anger. So I felt
it's time to write a post with an exercise on how to empower yourself in
situations like these. It's so important to not stay stuck in the
mindset that nothing you do matters, because that will lead to worse
outcomes for everybody. If you notice you keep worrying, you can also
read the worst case scenarios blog post to help you through those feelings.
I also did a True Unity Video for those of you who want to use True Unity on Powerlessness. Simply join in with the exercise to get yourself back into a centered and empowered place.
Why feeling powerless is a hard feeling to escape
I'm sure we've all seen our friends and family in a powerless space. They are unable to see any solutions, are dejected and don't seem to have the power, energy or decisiveness to make a change. It doesn't matter how often we give advice, how we reach out and try to help them, they won't transform until they process that feeling of powerlessness. As such, it's no surprise that when we are in that same space, we are also hard to help.
If you want to move forward, it's important to recognize that you are keeping yourself in a powerless space. Especially when saying things like: "There is nothing I can do", or "Nothing will help". Powerlessness is a trap state, where the state itself will reinforce the feeling, so you need to make a conscious effort to move out of it. Once you take the time and space to remember that you are not powerless, you can move forward.
Moving out of powerlessness
There are many ways to move out of powerlessness. We can ask for help, surrender to our higher power or find our own inner power. So you can read the blog post or do the True Unity exercise for the first two methods, but I will expand here about the last one.
Finding your inner power can be extremely hard when you are in a powerless place, because you need to either remind yourself of it or reconnect with it. A great way to do that is to help others, because it will remind you of your power. You can also trick yourself by giving yourself advice as your own best friend. It will help open up ideas and advice, even if you know you are just pretending. That's how powerful trying to help others truly is.
Exercise for finding your own inner power
- Find a place where you can sit still for around 5-10 minutes
- Close your eyes
- Breath in and out
- Visualize your own center of power as a flame
- Allow Heaven/God/The Universe to fan the flames until you see your own Inner Power as a big roaring fire
- Allow that fire to warm you and help you in your life
- Visualize three embers of that fire - they are full of energy but not hot
- Place one ember on your heart - for connection of your emotions to your power
- Place one ember on your third eye - for connection of your intuition to your power
- Place on ember on your head - for connection of your mind to your power
- Allow yourself to see the thread of fire between your inner power and those embers
- Breathe in and out and establish healthy connections to your power
- Whenever you feel ready - open your eyes
