Dear people,
I was quite surprised when I found out I haven't written anything yet about connecting with Angels or Angel Energy. I have written about Animal Totems as well as an article about Available Guidance, which of course also talks about Angels and answered questions about Guides/Guardian Angels. Now it's time to write a blog post about Angel Work and how to connect with Angels. You can also listen to me talk about Angels in Dutch, as my radio column Spiritueel Moment is on my YouTube Channel. I hope to have English Subtitles for them soon, so they are accessible to more people.
Angels
I love how Angels feature in so many different spiritual traditions and religions. Often they are the messengers of Higher Power, bringing us guidance and love. Yet, they can also help defend us, work with us or guard us. You might culturally feel you have a connection to Angels, as their images are everywhere around us.
Angel Energy is also very connected to Higher Power, so when we connect to Angels, we almost always feel a sense of peace, a light touch and so much love. Even if you don't feel you've connected to Angelic Energy, rest assured, your message has been heard.
Why work with Angels
We are of course all attracted to different higher energies, so if you don't feel a particular connection to Angels or Angelic Realms, you might not feel inclined to work with them. Yet, I truly believe that all higher realm energies are worthwhile for us. So you might give the exercise later on in the blog post a try to see what happens for you.
For me working with Angels is natural whenever I need softness, inner peace, forgiveness, surrender or faith. I also have worked extensively with Archangel Michael on healthy boundaries and protection. You can choose to work with whatever Angel calls you. I'm sure I give my Guardian Angel some work sometimes, but I do try to reach out for guidance often. Working with Angels can be very subtle, but it's also done with such grace that you will understand it's value.
Connecting with Angels
There are many ways of connecting with Angels, but it always begins with the intention that you want to connect. You can do so out loud, by calling, but also with your inner voice. After your intention, you can be sure your call is heard. Yet it helps to work with tools to understand the message Angels bring you.
Some of my favorite ways to connect are:
- Meditation/Visualization
- Prayer
- Cards (there are so many sets out there featuring Angels and Angelic Energy)
- Automatic Writing
- Dreams
Angel Contact Exercise
- Make sure you have 5-10 minutes of uninterrupted time to try to contact an Angel.
- Decide if you want to connect to a specific Angel, your Guardian Angel or just Angelic Energy
- Close your eyes and breathe deeply in and out a few times
- Imagine sitting on a bench, comfortable in the sun
- You are comfortable and at peace and ready to call out to the Angel or Angelic Presence that has a message for you.
- Gently pat the bench next to you and ask them to join you
- Breathe in and out until you feel a Presence next to you
- Accept the Gift of the Angelic Energy or an Energy Gift that the Angel brings you
- Ask if there is a specific message from Higher Power/God that you need to know
- Thank the Angel
- Gently open your eyes and return to your body
- Eat or drink something to ground yourself back into your body

Dear People,
A lot of people ask me about who is helping them in this life. It could be a Guide, Totem Animal, Guardian Angel or even a passed loved one. Often this is because they want to create a stronger connection and be able to work with them easily. So they ask who it is or for specific names. A few years ago I've written about my own Guides, but today I'm writing about answering questions about other people's Guides.
What type of helpers do you recognize?
There are many different entities, spiritual helpers or spiritual energy that people can work with. A small summary here might help you realize that you can try connecting to much more then you ever thought.
- Guides - usually souls that are willing to help others, could be a deceased loved one
- (Guardian) Angels - Angelic energy that can help with healing, guidance or protection
- Animal Totems - Energy and lessons from Animal Guides
- Faeries - Energy and lessons from Fae/Earth Guides
- Ancestors - Guidance from people in your own family tree

Can you give me the names of the Guides/Energy I'm working with?
I'm always very careful with giving out names. Not because I feel that people don't deserve it or that it's inherently wrong. However, I believe that when we are forging a connection, that finding out or receiving the name, helps that connection immensely. It's a special moment and it also helps us reconnect.
I have to admit I always name a lot of things in my life and I've heard that this is done a lot in Shamanic traditions. I haven't studied with a Shaman, but I have noticed a lot of past life flashbacks of Shamanic lives. A naming still feels like a claiming to me, so naming things for others doesn't sit that well with me.
I still sometimes do it, when somebody really want to know a name to get a better connection or wants a confirmation of the name they themselves have heard. So you can always feel free to ask this question.
Different ways connect to your guides
There are many different ways to connect to Guiding energy. You can do a (guided) meditation, take a moment of silence, do automatic writing, dream work or even ask for a sign. I've had people repeatedly find objects to signify it was Guide message or even get a name.
It's alright to try out a few different things to see what works for you. I did mostly dream work to connect with my Guides and even when I didn't specify a question, I would often dream of my Guides. For Totem Work I'd prefer meditative trance, sometimes with my own drum and for Angelic work I tend to meditate.
There is no right or wrong way to connect - just play around and see what comes easiest to you. Once you have a name however, it can be very helpful to just call on that name, a few times, until you start feeling the connection.

Dear People,
A lot of the time we are busy trying to deal with everything on our own. Asking for help is not something that comes natural to most of us. So it's no surprise that I've written 2 articles on it, but today I want to focus on what type of energy/guidance is available to us and how you can incorporate them into your life.
God/Highest Source/Heaven/Universe
A lot of people feel connected to a greater something, regardless on what type of name we will put on it. As an outside source, this is the easiest to connect with, but also often the hardest to get a clear answer from for a lot of people. It's because the energy is so big and loving, it's nice to access, but sometimes it feel our concerns are very small in comparison.
Incorporating this in your life can be as simple as saying a prayer or spending time tuning into the energy.
Guide
A lot of people work with one Guide exclusively. They try to foster a relationship where they can ask their Guide for Guidance regularly. Guides come from all walks of life, with different interests and advice based on what they are meant to help you with. There are many meditations to help meet your Guide, but sometimes Guides can also change during your life time.
Incorporate your Guide by meditating regularly, until you receive a name or image, that stays clear, so you can ask for advice and help.
Angels
Angels have held people's awe for a long time. There are Angels in oral tradition in lots of different places, so while Christians tend to think they are the only one with Angels, that isn't true. For many Angels are the messengers of God, more accessible to us and easier to receive guidance from.
Incorporate working with Angels by calling upon them regularly, you will notice different Angelic Energies depending on your question and work. There are also many good Oracle sets to work with Angels if you want to work with cards.
Faeries
Faeries can be nature spirits, but also spirits that are sideways from the reality that we perceive. They are often more capricious then Angels, but also more fun and down to earth. Their energy is very different and there are many different ways in which they can help you.
Incorporate working with Faeries by doing nature work, like growing plants, gardening or working with flowers in your daily life. Pay attention when you walk in the woods or in other natural places. Again, there are many good sets to work with Faeries if you want to work with cards.
Animal Totems
Animal Totems come from the tradition that animals have lessons to teach us and are valuable in our daily lives. Totems are more then just animals, as you can talk with Totem Animals and receive great wisdom. A lot of people who are drawn to Animal Totems feel connected to nature and Shamanism. Animal Totems help with spiritual lessons and integrating pieces of yourself.
Incorporate working with Animal Totems by doing meditative work, chanting or Shamanistic work. I work with Animal Orbs during meditation, but there are also several good sets of Cards if you want to work with Animal Totems.
Ancestors
While currently, a lot of people in the west don't work with Ancestors, in the East, honoring your ancestors and having access to their wisdom is very common place.
Incorporate your ancestors by tuning in energetically, doing some research on them or even putting a small candle by a photo of ancestors you feel connected to (like your parents, grandparents etc.).
